Environmental Portraits – 1/29

Today’s goal is to begin the topic of Environmental Self Portraits. To do this we’ll first begin with what makes a good Environmental Portrait.

First what does it mean….

Environmental Portrait Photography – An environmental portrait is a portrait executed in the subject’s usual environment, such as in their home or workplace, and typically illuminates the subject’s life and surroundings. The term is most frequently used of a genre of photography.

The person doesn’t have to smile.

Or even be looking at the camera….

You can tell where they work by simply looking at the surroundings.

Can’t figure out how to shoot the person’s photo, look for ideas of their where you want to take the photo to get ideas. Like what’s the best way to shoot in a weight room.

Framing. Depth of field. Rule of thirds. Composition makes your photos better.
